Fox NewsĀ reportsĀ In a major victory for both President Trump and national Republicans, North Carolina GOP state Sen. Dan Bishop was projected to win a fiercely contestedĀ special U.S. House electionĀ that was widely seen as a bellwether for the presidentās chances in the 2020 election.
Another Republican House candidate won a separate special election in a GOP-leaning district elsewhere in North Carolina earlier Tuesday evening ā frustrating Democrats who spent millions trying to avert the clean sweep, only to come up far short.

With 99Ā percent of precincts reporting, Bishop ledĀ Democrat Dan McCready by just over 4,100 votes (94,984 to 90,824)Ā in the race to represent theĀ GOP-leaningĀ 9th Congressional District.
In 2018, the Republican candidate, Mark Harris, defeated McCready by a much smaller margin ā just 905 votes, 139,246 to 138,341.Ā State officials ordered the unusualĀ special election earlier this year, invalidating Harrisā win after uncoveringĀ ballot fraud efforts.
